This 90-minute interactive Learning Café invites faculty and staff to explore the hidden curriculum, including the unspoken academic norms, expectations, institutional culture, and support systems that influence student retention and success.
When students are unaware of this knowledge, they may experience confusion and stress that negatively impact their well-being. This can lead to academic struggles, disengagement, or even withdrawal, ultimately affecting student retention.
Through open dialogue and shared reflection, participants will identify common barriers, exchange insights, and explore collaborative strategies to make university life more transparent and supportive for novice learners, particularly first-year and first-generation students.
